Cobourg Police say a 63-year-old man is facing several charges after being arrested during a patrol in the West Beach area on Tuesday, September 30.
Police say officers on proactive patrol around 1 p.m. saw the man in the company of someone he is prohibited from contacting due to previous court orders. He was arrested, and during a search incident to arrest, officers allege they discovered suspected fentanyl along with a large quantity of unmarked cigarettes.
The accused has been charged with failing to comply with an undertaking, two counts of failing to comply with probation, possession of a Schedule I substance, and possession of unmarked cigarettes contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act. He was held for a bail hearing.
According to police, this is not the man’s first encounter with the justice system. Since October 2024, Cobourg Police say he has been arrested three times and faces seven criminal charges, including four for failing to comply with probation or undertaking. Police also report they have had a total of 24 interactions with him in the past year.
