The Brighton All Stars Concert Band is gearing up to put on a show to help the Brighton Legion with its annual poppy campaign.
Music director Terry Denyes says it’s all about helping raise both monies and awareness leading up to Remembrance Day.
The concert is set for Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, starting at 7 p.m. at Brighton’s ENSS in the main auditorium. The show is free to attend, but donations will be collected for the poppy fund.
The Brighton All Stars Concert Band runs on volunteers and has long stepped up to help amid fundraising efforts for various causes locally. However, this particular show is still relatively new, marking its third year in 2025.
For Denyes, whose career was centred around performing military music, this is a cause he remains close to.
And that’s how all this really came about. He approached the legion and was told: “That’s a very nice idea. I think we should try it.”
Denyes tells us more about the program for the evening.
Throughout the evening, 35 to 40 members of the band will be on stage, plus singers, and more.
The band is also recruiting.
“The band is always ready to welcome new musicians,” says Denyes.
Often, he says he hears about people who used to play, but they’ve let that talent lapse while raising families and juggling work – but it’s never too late to pick it up again.
Whether people are looking to try again, or just something to do, Denyes says the band is there to help and mentor, meeting all year-round on Wednesdays in the upper hall at the legion.
The Nov. 5 concert will be about an hour or a little over – but not longer than an hour-and-a-half.
