A dropped 911 call has led to the alleged seizure of about $1 million worth of cannabis plants and two arrests in Port Hope, says Northumberland OPP.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, OPP issued a release saying on Oct. 10, 2025, at about 5:40 p.m., police responded to a dropped 911 call report in the 6th Line area in the Municipality of Port Hope.
“While at the location, police discovered what was believed to be an illegal cannabis grow operation,” reported OPP.
A search warrant ended up being executed with help from the Peterborough-Northumberland street crime unit and led to the alleged seizure of more than 1,000 cannabis plants, which police said have an estimated street value of about $1 million. Police also allege more than 500 pounds of processed cannabis were found at the property.
As a result of the investigation, police said Yikai Ding, 59, of no fixed address, and Xiuqi Kiu, 69, of Markham, were both charged with possess, produce, sell, distribute or import anything with intention to use it to produce, sell or distribute illicit cannabis.
These charges have not been proven in court.
Both individuals were held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg, reported OPP.
