This Thanksgiving long-weekend marked another deadly one following four deaths in separate crashes on OPP-patrolled roads.
For the long-weekend, OPP was among police services across the nation taking part in a traffic enforcement initiative known as “Operation Impact.”
In addition to the fatalities, OPP also laid thousands of charges, police have confirmed.
According to OPP, more than 8,800 traffic-related charges were laid across the province throughout the weekend.
“Officers worked around the clock, targeting road behaviours that continue to result in serious consequences for drivers and passengers of all ages every year,” said police, in their recently released official rundown following the campaign.
Speeding continues to be a major concern, accounting for more than half the offences with 4,518 charges laid. Meanwhile, another 158 stunt driving-related charges were also laid, reported OPP.
Across the province, 170 impaired driving charges and 130 distracted driving charges were also laid, while 377 seatbelt-related tickets were also dished out.
Police are continuing to call on motorists to make better choices when behind the wheel.
Already this year, OPP said up until Oct. 12, 2025, police had responded to a total of 244 fatal collisions, resulting in families collectively losing 279 loved ones this year, in what were almost all preventable road incidents.
