Cobourg police responded to several incidents over the weekend that led to multiple arrests and charges.
On Friday afternoon, officers were called to a business on Elgin Street West for a shoplifting report. A 38-year-old Cobourg man was arrested after staff saw him concealing merchandise. Police say a small quantity of suspected fentanyl was also found during the arrest. The man faces charges including theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a Schedule I substance.
Later Saturday night, around 10:15 p.m., police arrested a 56-year-old Cobourg man after responding to reports of an intoxicated person disrupting customers at a Division Street business. He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and entering premises when entry is prohibited, then released with provincial offence notices.
Shortly after, around 11:00 p.m., officers were called to a break and enter at a residence near Ontario Street and Furnace Street. A 38-year-old Cobourg man was arrested at the scene and charged with break and enter, possession of an identity document, and possession of property obtained by crime. He was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Police continue to remind residents to report suspicious activity immediately to help keep the community safe.
