Operation Red Nose is marking its 30th campaign in Ontario, once again offering free, volunteer-driven rides to help residents get home safely after holiday celebrations. From November 28 to December 31, volunteers in Northumberland and Quinte will take to the roads to provide safe rides home for those who choose to celebrate responsibly.
The annual initiative, coordinated nationally across seven provinces, is powered by thousands of volunteers who give their time to keep communities safe during the festive season. Donations collected through Operation Red Nose are reinvested back into the community through the YMCA Strong Communities Campaign which ensures that those in the community who need it most get access to theh Y’s programs and services.
Jean-Marie De Koninck, the founding president of Operation Red Nose, says the program’s strength comes from community spirit and shared responsibility. “For three decades, Operation Red Nose has been resting on a simple premise: solidarity can change the course of an evening… and sometimes, even a life,” he said.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for holiday events by using Operation Red Nose’s free ride service or volunteering to be part of the campaign. The organization’s website and mobile app include details on operating dates, hours, and participating communities.
