The Save the Jobs Task Force is encouraging manufacturers to take part in an upcoming job fair aimed at supporting the 150 Post Consumer Brands employees affected by the company’s decision to close its Cobourg facility at the end of 2025.
The announcement follows a successful on-site job fair held November 18, where manufacturers seeking skilled trades employees met directly with workers preparing for the transition.
The Task Force was created by Cobourg council in April after Post Consumer Brands announced it would cease production at the long-running Weetabix plant, resulting in significant job losses and leaving a major industrial facility without a future operator. Its mandate is to help employees navigate the transition while identifying and securing a new employer for the site.
Mayor Lucas Cleveland, who initiated the Task Force, said supporting local families has been central to the group’s work. He emphasized that the town remains focused on protecting jobs and positioning the property for strong long-term investment.
Production at the Cobourg plant is expected to continue through December, with some staff remaining into early 2026 to assist with shutdown preparations and ready the facility for its next user. Manufacturers considering expansion in Cobourg can request a guided tour of the plant through Post’s real estate representatives.
A second job fair for Post employees will take place November 25, and manufacturers interested in participating are encouraged to contact Post Consumer Brands Human Resources Manager Brittney Gillard at 905-372-5441 ext. 4232.
Members of the Save the Jobs Task Force include town and county economic development officials, representatives from Post Holdings and Northam Industrial Park, the Northumberland Manufacturers’ Association, and Cobourg council.
