Cobourg residents should be prepared for a temporary closure of the D’Arcy Street railway crossing on Saturday, November 29, as the CPKC Holiday Train rolls into town.
The crossing will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic between approximately 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with a detour in place on surrounding streets. The Town is thanking residents for their cooperation and understanding during the brief closure.
The brightly lit Holiday Train will arrive at the Columbus Community Centre at 12:05 p.m., bringing its trademark rolling stage and live musical performances. This year’s entertainment features Jade Eagleson and Teigen Gayse, who will perform from the train’s outdoor stage.
Residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations or contribute financially, with all support going directly to the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank to help families in need during the holiday season. The Cobourg Lions Club will also be on site serving $3 hot dogs and juice boxes, with proceeds benefiting the food bank.
Families can enjoy festive activities including Christmas music, face painting, and interactive holiday fun for children. Parking will be available on-site, though attendees are encouraged to arrive early due to anticipated traffic around the closure area.
The Holiday Train has become a tradition across Canada, combining entertainment with meaningful local support for hunger-relief organizations. Cobourg’s stop is one of dozens on the cross-country route.
