Two Township of Tudor and Cashel residents are facing a slew of charges after two alleged “violent robberies” that involved assaults with a baseball bat at stores in the Madoc and Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory areas, say police.
According to OPP, their investigation started after two people filled a vehicle with fuel at a gas station on Hwy. 62 in Madoc shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2025.
“They went inside, refused to pay for the gas and other items that were taken from the store,” said police. “One person inside the store was struck with a baseball bat, resulting in serious injuries.
“Another person was also assaulted.”
The pair was able to flee as officers arrived, reported OPP.
Then, later that same day – at about 5 p.m. – police said the same two people entered a store on Airport Road in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
“An employee was struck with a baseball bat, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. One of the would-be robbers then left the building.”
Officers with the Tyendinaga Police Service and OPP were able to quickly arrive at this scene and found and arrested one individual in a parked pick-up truck, said police, adding the second person was subsequently found and arrested inside the store.
As a result of the investigation, police said Tracy Vardy, 59, of the Township of Tudor and Cashel, was charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, two counts of robbery with violence, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Police also said Roxanne West, 55, of the Township of Tudor and Cashel, was charged with two counts of robbery with violence, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, flight from a peace officer, and accessory after the fact.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused were held in custody with bail hearings scheduled before the court in Belleville on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, reported OPP.
OPP noted that the investigation involving Central Hastings and Prince Edward County OPP crime units is continuing, in collaboration with Tyendinaga Police Service and Lennox and Addington County OPP’s forensic identification services.
