Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges against two motorists in unrelated impaired driving incidents.
On January 16, a 54-year-old Cobourg resident was involved in a single-vehicle crash near Archer Road and Lakeshore Road. The vehicle came to rest on its side in a ditch, but the driver was not injured. Officers conducted an impaired driving investigation, resulting in charges for operating a vehicle over the legal blood-alcohol limit and driving without a valid license. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension and seven-day vehicle impound were also imposed.
In a separate incident on January 18, a 29-year-old North York resident was charged following a single-vehicle collision on County Road 45 near Division Street. The vehicle was located on the Highway 401 eastbound on-ramp, and the driver was uninjured. Police charged the individual with operating a vehicle impaired by alcohol and drugs, including exceeding the legal blood-alcohol limit. A 90-day license suspension, seven-day vehicle impound, and a court appearance in Cobourg in February are scheduled.
Police emphasize that impaired driving continues to be a major safety concern in Northumberland County. Residents are reminded to plan ahead if consuming alcohol or drugs, using a designated driver, taxi, or public transit, and to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
