Cobourg Police Service say a wide range of incidents over the past several days resulted in arrests tied to sexual offences, drug trafficking, assaults, warrants, and probation breaches.
Police confirmed a 48-year-old Cobourg man has been charged following a sexual assault investigation involving a young person. The investigation began December 30, with officers arresting the accused on January 30. Charges include sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, and assault causing bodily harm. The accused was held for bail and remains in custody. His identity is protected due to the age of the victim.
Police also laid significant drug and weapons charges after responding to a disturbance Sunday night. Officers say a man was threatening someone with a screwdriver at a residence in the Division and Chapel streets area. A 46-year-old Cobourg man was arrested, and police seized suspected crystal methamphetamine, crack cocaine, cocaine, a digital scale, and packaging materials. He now faces assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, drug trafficking charges, and probation breaches. He was remanded into custody.
Elsewhere, police say officers arrested multiple individuals on outstanding warrants over the weekend, many of whom were already subject to court-ordered conditions. Charges included failing to comply with release orders, failing to attend court, and probation breaches.
A traffic stop also led to charges after police discovered a driver was suspended and in breach of court conditions. In another incident, a homeowner reported damage caused by someone living in a vacant structure, resulting in a mischief charge.
Cobourg Police continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity and say enforcement efforts remain focused on community safety and accountability.
