Valentine’s season is bringing a double dose of generosity to Northumberland, with United Way Northumberland launching a dessert auction and a new partnership aimed at helping students start their day ready to learn.
The charity’s Sweeten Your Valentine online auction is now underway, offering more than 20 prize bundles donated by local businesses and bakers. From pastries to savoury selections, bidders can win something delicious while supporting community programs.
Executive Director Alicia Vandine says the response from local partners has been mouthwatering.
At the same time, Vandermeer Toyota is helping drive donations even further. Throughout February, $50 from every vehicle sold will go to United Way Northumberland’s school nutrition efforts, with the dealership matching the total up to $5,000.
“At the end of February Vandermeer Toyota is going to match that… so we could potentially have a $10,000 fundraiser in support of our school nutrition so that we can keep our kids well fed so that they can learn.”
The added boost comes at a critical moment. United Way’s annual campaign is nearing its goal.
Funds raised are invested locally, supporting food banks, meal programs, and services that reach one in four residents across Northumberland County.
