The Town of Cobourg is advising residents about planned firefighter activity at the harbour this weekend.
According to the municipality, the Cobourg Fire Department will conduct ice water rescue training on Saturday, February 14. The exercise is part of the department’s regular winter preparedness program and typically takes place between January and March depending on ice conditions.
During the session, firefighters will practise responding to situations where someone has fallen through the ice. Crews will be using immersion suits, rescue boats and other specialized equipment while rehearsing established cold water rescue protocols.
Officials say the training allows firefighters to sharpen critical skills in a controlled environment so they are ready if a real emergency occurs.
Members of the public who see emergency vehicles or personnel near the waterfront are being reminded the activity is scheduled and there is no cause for alarm.
