The Municipality of Port Hope says a tribunal process involving the future of 65 Ward Street has come to an end.
According to municipal officials, the Ontario Land Tribunal has confirmed the applicants withdrew their appeal, closing the file and cancelling hearing dates that had been scheduled for June and September.
The appeal challenged council’s decision in June 2023 to deny a heritage permit that would have allowed demolition of the structure.
With the appeal withdrawn, that refusal remains in place. The municipality says the permit is not approved and demolition cannot proceed.
The appellants in the matter were Southbridge Health Care GP Inc., CVH (No. 6) GP Inc. and CVH (No. 6) LP.
At this time, the municipality says it has not received information explaining why the appeal was dropped.
The property has drawn considerable public interest in recent years, with discussions focused on heritage protection and potential redevelopment.
Municipal representatives say any future updates regarding the site will be communicated publicly as they become available.
