Port Hope Police have charged a 36-year-old Port Hope man following a break and enter investigation at a residential apartment building.
Police say officers were dispatched at approximately 1:03 p.m. on February 17 after a tenant returned home from work and discovered a significant amount of cash missing from inside the residence. According to police, nothing else in the unit appeared to be disturbed.
Officers attended the scene and began an investigation. Video surveillance obtained from the property management office identified a suspect known to the building.
Police say the individual was a former employee who previously had authorized access to unit keys.
Officers located the suspect at a residence within the same apartment building and placed him under arrest without incident.
A 36-year-old Port Hope man has been charged with break and enter and theft under $5,000.
The accused was transported to the Port Hope Police Service, processed and later released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Police continue to remind residents to report suspicious activity and ensure secure handling of building access and keys.
