Cobourg Police Service and Port Hope Police Service are receiving $292,447 in provincial funding to enhance local responses to intimate partner violence and domestic violence.
The funding is being delivered through Ontario’s Victim Support Grant program, part of the province’s Guns, Gangs and Violence Reduction Strategy. The initiative also complements Ontario’s Anti Human Trafficking Strategy and related legislation.
In Northumberland County, the funding will support a joint initiative known as Partners in Prevention – a collaborative effort between Cobourg Police Service, Port Hope Police Service and Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre.
The project is designed to strengthen the region’s collective ability to identify, respond to and prevent incidents of intimate partner violence and domestic violence. It focuses on three integrated streams: prevention, education and guidance.
By building on an established collaborative model and addressing identified service gaps, the initiative aims to improve coordination among partners, enhance case outcomes and provide stronger protections for victims.
Provincial officials say the broader $6 million investment across Ontario is intended to expand trauma informed responses, improve reporting supports and reduce repeat victimization.
Locally, the funding is expected to reinforce partnerships between police and community agencies while advancing prevention efforts and improving safety for residents throughout Northumberland County.
More information about the Victim Support Grant program is available through the Ontario government.
