Northumberland OPP say multiple calls from concerned motorists helped lead to charges following a Highway 401 collision west of Port Hope.
Police were called around 9:15 a.m. on February 23 to a two vehicle crash on Highway 401 westbound in the Township of Alnwick Haldimand. The uninjured caller reported that the other driver allegedly failed to stop after the collision and had been unable to maintain their lane prior to the crash.
According to police, additional traffic complaints were received from other motorists describing a similar vehicle travelling erratically along the highway.
An officer later located a vehicle matching the description stopped on the shoulder of Highway 401 near Port Hope.
As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old from the Municipality of Brighton, has been charged with dangerous operation, failure to stop after accident and disobeying an order of the court.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in April.
Police are thanking members of the public who promptly reported their concerns, noting that citizen information plays an important role in keeping area roads safe.
Anyone with information about suspected unlawful activity is asked to contact the OPP at 1 888 310 1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
