Cobourg Police say an early morning traffic stop has resulted in impaired driving charges.
Officers on general patrol around 2 a.m. on February 22 observed a vehicle allegedly being driven erratically. Police initiated a traffic stop in the area of University Street and Margaret Street.
According to police, officers formed grounds to believe the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.
As a result of the investigation, a 43 year old Cobourg woman has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drug, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, disobey stop sign and fail to surrender driver’s licence.
Police say the vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.
The accused was released on an undertaking and Part III summons and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Cobourg Police are reminding residents to plan ahead for a safe ride home, designate a sober driver or call a friend, relative or taxi. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
