A bouquet of tulips is once again helping feed children and youth across Northumberland County.
Tulips for Tummies, created by Julie Powell, owner of Quinn’s Blooms and Greenery, began in spring 2020 at the height of the pandemic. With school nutrition programs paused, Powell says she felt compelled to respond.
And so Tulips for Tummies was born with proceeds of tulip sales going to Local Food for Local Good.
Since then, the campaign has raised $15,000 over five years, including more than $3,000 in 2024 alone.
Local Food for Local Good is a Northumberland-based non-profit focused on closing food security gaps for children and youth. The organization works with schools, community partners and agencies to provide healthy food access, holiday hampers and after-school nutrition support across the county.
Powell says purchasing is simple.
The campaign runs from February 27th till March 24th with tulip sale proceeds donated to Local Food for Local Good.
According to Powell, the funds make a tangible impact.
Quinn’s Blooms, a locally owned floral shop, has become known for blending business with community giving and Powell says this campaign remains close to her heart.
The concept, she notes, is straightforward: buy tulips and help support local kids.
