Two Brighton youth have returned home with silver medals after competing in 5-pin bowling at the Orillia 2026 Ontario Winter Games.
Savannah Sharp-Chambers and Ashley Pearson, both bowling out of Presqu’ile Lanes in Brighton, joined three other young athletes to form a team at the games, including one youth from Peterborough and two from Oshawa.
Led by Brighton coach Mike Greenlee, the team of five ladies finished second overall to bring home silver.
Sharp-Chambers also picked up a silver medal for an individual finish and made the Ontario All-Star Team, says Sharp-Chambers’ proud mom Angela.
Eighteen-year-old Sharp-Chambers just graduated from ENSS last year and Pearson is 17 and in Grade 12 at ENSS. They both say they had a blast representing Brighton at the games.
For Sharp-Chambers, her whole family is involved in the sport and she’s been at it since age three.
Over the years, she’s racked up a lot of wins, but says this one was special.
She believes the key to success at the games in this instance was consistency.
“We had a great team,” added Pearson. “It was a lot of fun – a lot of cheering …”
Pearson, too, already had quite the collection of medals going into the games and has been bowling since 2014.
She says her dad Tom Pearson is responsible for her love of the game and has been an incredible mentor for her.
They continue bowling together, too.
And he’s not the only one helping youth. Coach Greenlee has also been influential, says Pearson.
The team competed at the games over two days on Feb. 27 and 28.
