Cobourg’s historic downtown has been recognized as one of the best in the province in a new travel feature highlighting standout communities across Ontario.
The town was recently included on a list of the nine best downtowns in Ontario published by travel website WorldAtlas. The list highlights communities known for their walkable main streets, historic architecture and vibrant local culture.
According to the feature, Cobourg’s downtown stands out for its historic King Street corridor and its close connection to the Lake Ontario waterfront.
One of the most recognizable landmarks in the downtown is Victoria Hall, the town’s historic civic building that serves as a hub for community events, concerts and art exhibitions. Located inside the same building is the Art Gallery of Northumberland, which hosts rotating exhibitions throughout the year.
The article also highlights the town’s waterfront setting. Just a short walk from the downtown core is Victoria Park, Cobourg Marina and Cobourg Beach, offering residents and visitors easy access to trails, green space and lakefront views.
Seasonal events and festivals were also noted as part of Cobourg’s appeal, helping bring visitors into the downtown throughout the year.
The WorldAtlas list includes several other popular Ontario destinations, including Niagara on the Lake, Stratford, Elora, Port Perry and Dundas.
