Port Hope police say they’ve laid 21 charges after an intimate partner violence investigation.
According to the Port Hope Police Service, on March 11, 2026, police responded to a report of intimate partner violence.
“During the investigation, officers identified several historical incidents of violence, threats and mischief that (allegedly) occurred over a number of years,” said police.
As a result of the investigation, police said 21 criminal charges were laid against the accused, including 12 counts of assault, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, five counts of uttering threats, one count of assault with a weapon, and one count of mischief.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The service released no details surrounding the accused, including where they were from. Police said the accused will also not be named to protect the identity of the victim.
After a show-cause hearing, police said the court ordered the accused released with strict conditions, including geographic monitoring to protect the victim.
