A Cobourg man is facing an impaired driving charge after a traffic stop in the town’s downtown core.
Cobourg Police say officers observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light at Division Street and King Street on March 16, 2026, at approximately 7 p.m.
After stopping the vehicle, police spoke with the driver and suspected impairment by drugs. A Standardized Field Sobriety Test was conducted at the scene.
As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with operation while impaired.
Police say the accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
The Cobourg Police Service is reminding the public that impaired driving remains a serious safety concern on local roads.
Residents are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
Police also urge drivers to plan ahead by arranging for a sober ride home, whether through a designated driver, a friend or family member, or a taxi or ride service.
Officers say public vigilance plays an important role in keeping roads safe and preventing impaired driving incidents.
