Northumberland OPP say a woman from Scarborough has been charged following an incident at Warkworth Institution that left a correctional officer injured.
Police say the incident occurred on January 30, 2026, when a visitor at the facility allegedly refused to leave and kicked a door, causing injury to a correctional officer.
The officer was transported to a local hospital with what police describe as non serious injuries.
As a result of the investigation, members of the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit arrested a suspect on March 16.
Maryan Mahamed, 32, of Scarborough, has been charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
She is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in April 2026.
Police say the OPP and Correctional Service Canada work closely together to maintain safety within correctional facilities and surrounding communities.
That includes investigating incidents, preventing contraband from entering institutions and enforcing applicable laws.
