The Municipality of Port Hope has opened the tender process for a major infrastructure project along Toronto Road and Victoria Street South, with construction expected to begin this spring.
The project includes watermain upsizing along Toronto Road and full reconstruction of Victoria Street South, along with upgrades to underground infrastructure such as water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. The tender closes April 9, with major construction work anticipated to be completed by November 2026.
Municipal officials say the upgrades are needed due to increased traffic and development in the area over the past two decades, which have placed additional strain on both the roadway and aging underground services.
The work will take place along Toronto Road and Victoria Street South, from Fraser Street to south of Trafalgar Street.
During construction, residents can expect lane closures on Toronto Road and a full closure of Victoria Street South. The Municipality says access to private driveways will be maintained as much as possible, with advance notice provided if temporary disruptions are required.
In the lead up to construction, residents may notice preliminary work such as surveying and site preparation taking place in the area.
The project was previously presented to the public through a community engagement session and survey in 2023, and was approved by council as part of the 2026 municipal budget.
Residents can follow updates and learn more about the project through the Municipality’s online engagement page.
