A growing community tradition in Cobourg is continuing to make an impact, with this year’s Battle of the Badges hockey game raising more than $16,600 for local youth mentoring.
The annual event, held April 4 at the Cobourg Community Centre, saw members of Cobourg police and the Cobourg Fire Department face off in a friendly but competitive game. Organizers say approximately 1,100 people attended, including families, youth, and community supporters.
Funds raised from the event will support Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Durham and Northumberland, helping provide mentoring programs for young people across the region.
The Cobourg police team captured this year’s Chris Garrett Memorial Trophy, awarded following the annual matchup between the two services.
Organizers say the event continues to build momentum each year, both as a fundraiser and as a way to bring the community together in support of local youth.
Money was raised through donations at the door, along with support from a number of sponsors. Officials say the continued backing from local businesses and residents plays a key role in the event’s success.
Police and fire officials are thanking everyone who attended, donated, and helped organize the event, noting the strong turnout reflects the community’s ongoing commitment to supporting youth in Northumberland.
