For nearly 30 years, Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign has helped raise millions of dollars for local charities and community organizations across Canada.
Each spring, the familiar chocolate chunk cookie topped with its pink and blue icing smile becomes more than a sweet treat, with 100 per cent of proceeds staying local to support important causes chosen by participating restaurant owners.
This year the campaign runs from April 27th to May 3rd, and this year every cookie sold at 10 participating locations across Northumberland County will help support Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation says proceeds from the campaign will go directly toward the hospital’s emergency department, helping fund care for patients across the region.
Rhonda Cunningham, CEO of Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation, says:
The campaign includes Tim Hortons locations in Port Hope, Cobourg and Colborne, after local owners chose the hospital as the 2026 beneficiary.
There are several ways for residents to get involved, including stopping in to purchase, but they also need some volunteers to help them add the smiles.
Volunteers are needed for two-hour decorating shifts throughout the week, and anyone over 14 can participate, with parental permission required for teens under 18. It’s also a sweet way for students to get in some of their volunteer hours.
Businesses are also encouraged to place bulk orders through the foundation website.
Cunningham says pre-orders are an affordable way for workplaces to show staff appreciation while supporting local health care.
And of course, residents are encouraged to simply stop by, grab a cookie and help out.
At $2 each, every Smile Cookie sold sends 100 per cent of proceeds to the hospital.
Foundation staff say the perfect combination is simple: volunteer for a shift, buy a cookie and help bring better emergency care closer to home.
