Community support is needed for a Cobourg family after eight year old Evan Brock was rushed to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto following a sudden medical emergency on Mother’s Day.
According to a GoFundMe created by family member Lindsay Labonte, Evan spent Sunday enjoying sports and family activities before becoming violently ill and unresponsive later that evening.
Family members say Melissa Brock’s oldest son alerted her around 10:45 p.m. after Evan began vomiting and experiencing seizures.
The fundraiser says Evan suffered more than 40 minutes of seizures after arriving at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg before doctors stabilized him and arranged urgent transport to SickKids Hospital, where he was placed on a ventilator Sunday night.
Family members say Evan has since begun breathing more on his own and is slowly regaining strength, though doctors continue searching for answers. Neurological and genetic specialists are now involved in the investigation into his condition.
The online fundraiser was created to help Melissa, described by family as a devoted single mother of four, manage growing expenses while remaining at her son’s bedside in Toronto.
Funds raised will help cover hotel stays, meals, gas, parking and time away from work during Evan’s hospitalization.
As of Friday morning, the campaign had raised more than $8,100 toward a $12,000 goal.
The family continues asking for prayers and support as Evan’s recovery continues.
