YMCA Northumberland is preparing for another colourful community celebration with the return of the annual Rainbow Run on June 7 in Cobourg.
This year’s event will include a new Bubble Dash designed for children and families, adding what organizers describe as even more “rainbow magic” to the annual fundraiser.
The event begins at the Cobourg Yacht Club with check in opening at 9:30 a.m. The Bubble Dash starts at 10 a.m., followed by two and a half kilometre and five kilometre walk and run options through Cobourg’s waterfront and downtown beginning at 10:15 a.m.
YMCA Northumberland says this year’s event includes new partnerships with Northumberland Pride and the Lions Club of Cobourg.
President and CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick says the Rainbow Run celebrates diversity and inclusion while creating a welcoming space for all participants.
Following the run, the Lions Club of Cobourg will host a community barbecue, with a portion of proceeds helping support the fundraiser.
Funds raised through the event support the YMCA Strong Communities Campaign, which helps ensure YMCA programs and spaces remain accessible and welcoming, including for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. A portion of proceeds will also support Northumberland Pride initiatives.
Organizers say participants are encouraged to wear colourful outfits and note that strollers and pets are welcome to join the festivities.
Registration is now open through YMCA Northumberland’s website.
The first 250 participants to register will receive a commemorative finisher medal.
