Thousands of cookies sold across Northumberland have translated into major support for emergency care at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation announced this year’s local Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign raised more than $88,000 in support of the hospital’s Emergency Department.
Funds raised through Tim Hortons locations in Cobourg, Port Hope and Colborne will help support patient care and services at NHH.
The campaign ran from April 27 through May 3 and drew significant community participation throughout the week.
According to the Foundation, more than 250 volunteers signed up to help decorate cookies and support the campaign.
“We are incredibly grateful to the owners of our local Tim Hortons restaurants who selected us as the recipient of this program,” said NHH Foundation CEO Rhonda Cunningham.
“And we are truly amazed by the results and overwhelming community support. In addition to the crucial funds raised for our hospital, we saw hundreds of people raise their hand to volunteer their time to make a difference and we cannot thank them enough.”
Cunningham also thanked residents who supported the campaign through donations, volunteer work and bulk cookie orders.
“Whether you gave your time, placed a bulk order, or stopped in to buy cookies in support: thank you,” Cunningham added. “This success is a testament to our community.”
The annual Smile Cookie campaign has become one of the largest community fundraising efforts connected to local Tim Hortons restaurants and healthcare initiatives.
