Northumberland OPP have charged a Warkworth resident following a suspicious person investigation in Campbellford.
Police say officers were called to Church Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. on May 28 after receiving a complaint regarding a suspicious individual in the area.
According to OPP, officers located a person matching the description provided by the complainant. During the subsequent investigation, police say they seized a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
As a result, a 48-year-old Warkworth resident has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance, specifically methamphetamine.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in July.
Along with details of the arrest, Northumberland OPP are reminding residents about several seasonal safety concerns.
Police are urging motorists never to travel the wrong way on highway on-ramps or off-ramps to avoid delays or closures. OPP say doing so creates a significant risk of head-on collisions and motorists should instead follow detours or directions from emergency personnel.
The force is also reminding boaters that marine patrols are underway on Rice Lake and surrounding waterways.
Officers will be conducting both enforcement and education throughout the boating season. OPP are encouraging boaters to wear properly fitted lifejackets, ensure required safety equipment is onboard, avoid operating vessels while impaired, and pay attention to weather and water conditions.
Police say proactive patrols and responsible behaviour help keep local waterways safe for everyone throughout the summer months.
