The Municipality of Port Hope is advising residents and businesses of upcoming sidewalk repairs in the downtown core.
Beginning June 15, contractor Don Oliver Excavating will remove and replace a section of sidewalk on Walton Street between John Street and Queen Street.
Municipal officials say the work is required after issues were identified with a section of sidewalk installed during Phase 2 of the Walton Street Reconstruction project in 2024.
The repair project is expected to take approximately one week to complete, weather permitting.
During construction, residents and visitors can expect temporary sidewalk closures, construction-related noise and some dust in the immediate work area. Certain parking spaces may also be temporarily occupied by construction equipment and materials.
To help minimize disruptions, foot bridges will be installed to maintain pedestrian access to downtown businesses throughout the project.
The municipality says all newly poured sidewalk sections will be monitored while curing to help prevent damage and ensure the work meets quality standards.
Officials acknowledge the project may cause short-term inconvenience but say the repairs are necessary to address deficiencies in the original installation.
The work is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve downtown infrastructure following the major Walton Street reconstruction project.
The municipality says every effort will be made to complete the repairs safely, efficiently and with as little disruption as possible to nearby businesses, residents and visitors.
Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution around the construction area and follow any posted signage while the work is underway.
