According to Northumberland OPP, two separate investigations have resulted in charges against residents of Brighton and Roseneath.
The first investigation began shortly before 12:30 a.m. on June 7 when police received a report of a theft from a business on Elizabeth Street in Brighton.
Police say approximately $70 worth of merchandise was stolen before the suspect left in a vehicle. Later that same day, officers responded to a second complaint from the same business involving the theft of liquor.
The accused was arrested by a neighbouring police service on June 10 on an outstanding warrant and later transferred into OPP custody.
A 28-year-old Brighton resident has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of failing to attend court. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in September.
In a separate incident, OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Spring Street in Cramahe Township shortly after 2 a.m. on June 10.
Police say a passenger vehicle struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. No serious injuries were reported.
Following an interaction with the driver, officers launched an impaired driving investigation.
As a result, a 32-year-old Roseneath resident has been charged with impaired driving-related offences, including operating a vehicle while impaired and operating a vehicle with alcohol and cannabis readily available.
Police also issued a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and impounded the vehicle for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Cobourg in July.
All charges have yet to be tested in court.
