Northumberland OPP say a series of investigations over the past week have resulted in impaired driving, vehicle theft and criminal harassment charges across Northumberland County.
Three separate impaired driving investigations led to charges against drivers from Brighton, Norwood and Mississauga.
Police say the first incident occurred June 10 when a pickup truck left County Road 27 in Brighton and entered a field. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital before being charged with impaired driving offences.
A second investigation began June 13 after officers responding to a disturbance in Colborne allegedly observed a driver lose traction while turning onto King Street. Police say subsequent testing indicated a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.
The third impaired driving investigation took place June 15 after a vehicle reportedly struck a guardrail on Highway 401 in Alnwick/Haldimand Township. No injuries were reported.
In a separate incident, police charged a 34-year-old Trent Hills resident after a pickup truck was allegedly taken without the owner’s consent from a Northwoods Drive residence. OPP say the vehicle was later returned, but construction tools were missing. The accused was not identified to protect the identity of the victim.
Police also announced charges against a 48-year-old Oshawa resident following a criminal harassment investigation that began when a complainant reported finding a tracking device on their vehicle in April. OPP withheld the accused’s identity to protect the victim.
Meanwhile, police continue to investigate the theft of a passenger vehicle reported stolen from a residence on Elgin Street West in Brighton on June 6.
Anyone with information regarding the stolen vehicle is asked to contact Northumberland OPP.
