Northumberland residents won’t have to travel far to find Canada Day celebrations, with communities across the county planning parades, live entertainment, family activities and fireworks.
Cobourg’s annual Waterfront Festival returns Saturday, June 27 and continues through Canada Day, bringing amusement rides, food vendors, HarbourArts and the Lions Marketplace to the waterfront. On July 1, the community celebration includes the annual parade through downtown, opening ceremonies, entertainment in Victoria Park, multicultural programming in Rotary Harbourfront Park and a fireworks display over the harbour beginning at 10 p.m.
Port Hope begins celebrating a day early with a free community barbecue and Movies in the Park on June 30. Canada Day features the return of the Walton Street parade, breakfast hosted by the Lions Club, a Show N’ Shine, yoga, family activities, live entertainment throughout the day and fireworks over the pier in the evening.
Brighton’s King Edward Park will once again host one of the county’s largest Canada Day gatherings. The day begins with a pancake breakfast before free family activities, a parade, opening ceremonies, live entertainment, complimentary birthday cake and a fireworks finale.
In Alnwick/Haldimand Township, celebrations begin Sunday, June 28 with the annual Grafton parade, followed by family activities, the Bubbleology Show, crafts, live entertainment, civic awards and Canada Day cake. Additional Canada Day programming will also take place in Grafton on July 1.
Trent Hills will also mark Canada Day with community celebrations taking place across the municipality, offering residents another opportunity to celebrate close to home.
