Whether you’re looking to set a personal best, enjoy a family walk or see firefighters tackle a unique challenge in full bunker gear, there’s something for everyone at this year’s Canadian Fire Fighters Museum Charity Walk and Run.
The third annual event takes place Sunday, July 5th in Cobourg and raises money to support the rebuilding of the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum in the former Memorial Arena. Participants can choose from a five-kilometre run, a family-friendly 2.5-kilometre walk or run, or the popular Bunker Gear Challenge, where firefighters complete the course wearing their full protective equipment. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., with events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Race organizer Rod Simpson says the event combines fitness, community and a chance to preserve an important part of Canada’s history.
Simpson says one of the strengths of the event is that people of all ages and abilities can take part.
The museum is being rebuilt with the help of volunteers and community fundraising, with exhibits showcasing the history of firefighting in Canada. Organizers say the walk and run is one of several events helping support that work while bringing the community together.
Anyone planning to register can also save on their entry fee. Simpson explains how.
