A Port Hope man is facing several charges following an early morning break and enter in Cobourg.
Cobourg Police say officers were called to a building in the area of Furnace Street and Victoria Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of a break and enter in progress.
When officers arrived, they say they spotted a man fleeing the scene and began a foot pursuit.
The suspect was arrested a short distance away.
During the investigation, officers also located a nearby wagon containing copper coils believed to be connected to the incident.
As a result, 58-year-old Gregory Hatherly of Port Hope has been charged with break and enter, mischief, trespass by night, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation.
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
Cobourg Police have not released additional details about the building involved or the extent of any damage.
The investigation is continuing.
