Northumberland OPP have laid charges in three unrelated investigations involving impaired driving, firearms and alleged harassment.
The first incident happened June 27, when officers on patrol on County Road 9 in Alnwick/Haldimand Township stopped a vehicle they say was travelling at a high rate of speed.
Police launched an impaired driving investigation and arrested a 23-year-old Port Hope man. He is charged with impaired operation, operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit, speeding, novice driver with blood alcohol above zero, and two Highway Traffic Act offences. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The following morning, officers responded to a dispute between tenants at a multi-unit residence on Moore Service Road in Hamilton Township after receiving a report that a firearm had been brandished.
Northumberland OPP’s Crime Unit assisted with the investigation, and officers seized several firearms and ammunition after executing a search warrant.
An 82-year-old Hamilton Township resident is charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm. Police are not identifying the accused to protect the victim’s identity.
In a separate investigation, OPP charged a 28-year-old Havelock woman with harassing communications after investigating complaints of unwanted phone calls and social media messages allegedly sent over a four-year period. Police say the communications involved both the complainant and a child family member. The accused’s identity is also being withheld to protect the victim and young person involved.
