A Bowmanville man is facing a careless driving charge after a pedestrian was struck by a reversing vehicle in Port Hope.
The Port Hope Police Service says officers responded to the collision on the morning of July 7 near the intersection of Madison Street and Mill Street South.
Investigators determined the pedestrian was crossing the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle that was backing up.
The woman was transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital for assessment and medical treatment. Police have not released any information on the extent of her injuries.
Following the investigation, a 52-year-old Bowmanville man was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
Port Hope Police are using the incident to remind motorists to remain aware of their surroundings whenever operating a vehicle, particularly when reversing.
Officers encourage drivers to check mirrors, look over both shoulders and remain alert for pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users before backing up.
The collision remains a reminder that even low-speed manoeuvres can have serious consequences when visibility is limited or pedestrians are nearby.
