The Town of Cobourg is inviting residents to explore a new interactive StoryMap designed to explain how the municipality manages the infrastructure that supports everyday life.
Released by the Town’s Public Works and Engineering Division, the 2026 Asset Management: An Annual Review StoryMap outlines how roads, bridges, water and wastewater systems, parks, emergency service equipment and other municipal assets are planned, maintained and replaced over time.
According to the town, Cobourg is responsible for infrastructure with a combined replacement value of more than $1.12 billion. Officials say asset management uses data, risk analysis and long term planning to help make informed decisions about maintaining those assets while preparing for future needs.
The StoryMap includes examples of recent projects, including the King Street West culvert replacement and the purchase of a new fire pumper truck, to demonstrate how asset management works in practice.
Town officials also hope the online resource will help residents better understand one of the biggest challenges facing municipalities: the growing infrastructure funding gap. By explaining what assets the town owns, their condition and how replacement priorities are determined, the StoryMap aims to provide greater transparency around infrastructure planning and investment.
The StoryMap was presented to Cobourg council during its June 24 meeting as part of the municipality’s annual asset management review.
Residents can explore the interactive StoryMap and access the town’s latest Asset Management reports through the Town of Cobourg’s website.
