The Municipality of Port Hope has announced the appointment of Cynthia Islam as its new Director of Water and Wastewater Services, effective July 20.
Islam will oversee the Municipality’s water and wastewater divisions, providing strategic leadership for day-to-day operations, regulatory compliance, capital planning and long-term service delivery.
A licensed Professional Engineer and Project Management Professional, Islam brings nearly a decade of municipal experience leading infrastructure and capital projects. Most recently, she served as Manager of Capital Projects and Infrastructure for the City of Pickering, where she oversaw long-range planning and major municipal projects, including roads, bridges, stormwater systems, sidewalks and streetlighting.
Before joining Pickering, she held several progressively senior positions with the City of Oshawa.
“I’m excited to join the Municipality of Port Hope and contribute to an organization that is focused on long-term stewardship, service excellence, and community well-being,” Islam said. She added that she looks forward to working with municipal staff to deliver reliable and sustainable services while advancing strategic initiatives.
Chief Administrative Officer Mike Melinyshyn welcomed the appointment, saying Islam brings extensive experience in municipal engineering, infrastructure and strategic leadership.
He said her collaborative approach and technical expertise will help support what he described as “Port Hope 2.0” – the municipality’s next phase of growth, innovation and service excellence.
Municipal officials say Islam’s experience will be instrumental as Port Hope continues investing in the infrastructure needed to support current residents while preparing for future growth.
