An 18-year-old Port Hope man is facing multiple charges after police say a vehicle fled from officers before later crashing in a single-vehicle collision.
Port Hope Police say officers were conducting general patrols on Thursday, July 16, when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Peacock Boulevard before it drove onto the grass along Rose Glen Road.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but police say the vehicle failed to stop and fled the area. Due to concerns for public safety, officers did not initiate a pursuit.
The vehicle was located a short time later after being involved in a single-vehicle collision. Police say the driver fled on foot but was arrested shortly afterward.
The 18-year-old Port Hope man has been charged with flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop after an accident and driving a motor vehicle without a licence under the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on Oct. 7.
