A major new development proposal in Cobourg could bring nearly 1,000 new homes to King Street East.
The town has received complete Official Plan and zoning amendment applications for 390 King Street East from The Planning Partnership on behalf of Highland Hills (Cobourg) Inc.
The proposal includes 26 semi-detached homes, 106 street townhouses, 138 stacked townhouses and 700 apartment units.
Several apartment buildings are proposed, with heights reaching up to 16 storeys.
Plans also include about 5,000 square metres of commercial space at the southwest corner of the property, along with open space and environmentally protected areas.
The land is currently designated mainly for institutional use and would require planning changes before the project could move ahead.
Cobourg council will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. at Victoria Hall.
Residents can attend in person, watch online or register to speak virtually.
Written comments can also be submitted to the town.
The meeting will give residents their first formal chance to support, oppose or raise concerns about the large proposal.
