Northumberland County has set a new move-in date for residents of the Golden Plough Lodge in Cobourg.
Residents are now scheduled to move into the new long-term care home on Sunday, Aug. 23.
The move follows months of preparation and a recent follow-up inspection by the Ministry of Long-Term Care. County officials say final licensing steps are still being completed before residents can officially occupy the building.
Staff, families, volunteers and a professional health-care relocation team will work together to make the transition as safe and smooth as possible.
The new Golden Plough Lodge is a 197,000-square-foot facility with 180 long-term care beds, up from 151 at the former home. The building includes six resident home areas, a dedicated memory care unit, interior courtyards, lounges, an auditorium, chapel, salon and greenhouse.
The move-in date had previously been delayed while the county worked through ministry requirements and inspections.
Before residents move in, the public will also get a chance to tour the new facility at an open house, with details expected soon.
The county says the transition marks a milestone in the redevelopment project for Cobourg.
