A Township of Hamilton outdoor education centre described as a “special place” for generations of local residents is open again following a major restoration project.
The township recently held a grand reopening for the Laurie Lawson Outdoor Education Centre at 8,000 Telephone Rd., with members of council and township staff joining representatives of the Northumberland Land Trust to celebrate the return of the trails and natural spaces.
Township officials say the property has long provided opportunities for students and community members to learn about and connect with nature.
The township credited the Northumberland Land Trust, volunteers, donors and others involved in restoring the community resource.
The land trust said community support helped its restoration campaign reach its $150,000 fundraising goal.
According to the organization, the work included restoring trails and upgrading infrastructure to make the property safe and accessible for visitors once again.
The township says the centre provides opportunities for outdoor education and conservation while giving residents a place to connect with nature close to home.
