Northumberland OPP laid hundreds of charges and investigated several suspected impaired drivers during traffic enforcement over the Labour Day long weekend.
Police say officers issued a total of 274 charges throughout the weekend, including 181 speeding charges, seven seatbelt violations, three distracted driving charges and one stunt driving charge.
Three separate impaired driving investigations also resulted in charges.
On September 4th, emergency crews responded to a three-vehicle collision at County Road 2 and Lawson Settlement Road in Brighton. One driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An 18-year-old Prince Edward County resident was charged with impaired operation, impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and driving as a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero.
Police also charged a 29-year-old Oakville man after responding to a traffic complaint involving a vehicle on County Road 30 in Brighton.
A 55-year-old Campbellford man was also charged following a report of a possible impaired driver on Bridge Street West in Trent Hills.
Both men are charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old Cobourg man faces a stunt driving charge after OPP say a vehicle was travelling 152 kilometres an hour in an 80 kilometre zone on County Road 22 in Alnwick/Haldimand.
The driver received a 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
Northumberland OPP are reminding motorists to slow down, remain focused on the road and never drive while impaired.
