The Municipality of Port Hope has begun its annual hydrant flushing and testing program, with crews working weekdays through Oct. 23.
The maintenance work is designed to check water flow and pressure throughout the urban area. Residents are being advised that temporary pressure changes or rusty water may occur and to avoid doing laundry while flushing is underway.
Work west of the Ganaraska River is scheduled between 7 a.m. and noon, while crews will work east of the river from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Officials say residents who notice discoloured water should run a cold-water tap for five to 10 minutes. If the issue continues, they can contact the municipality at 905-885-8760 or report a water service issue online.
