A Cobourg family was forced from their home early Monday after a fire broke out in a Perry Street driveway, with firefighters saying a lithium battery may have sparked the blaze.
Crews were called to the property shortly after 5:18 a.m. Sept. 14 following reports of a fire. Firefighters arrived to find a utility vehicle and debris engulfed in flames.
The fire had spread beyond the vehicle, prompting crews to work quickly to keep the flames from reaching the nearby residence.
The family was evacuated while firefighters attacked the blaze. Crews managed to contain the fire before it entered the home.
No injuries were reported and the residence was not damaged by the fire.
The preliminary cause is believed to involve a lithium battery. Firefighters remained at the scene until the area was deemed safe.
