Cobourg residents will have an opportunity to hear directly from municipal candidates next month as community-led debates are planned for Oct. 14 and 15.
The first forum, featuring deputy mayor and council candidates, is scheduled for Oct. 14, followed by a mayoral candidates’ debate the next evening. Both events will be held at the Lions Club of Cobourg, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and debates beginning at 7 p.m.
Organizers say more than half of the free advance tickets for both events have already been claimed.
Residents can obtain tickets, submit questions for candidates and volunteer through the Cobourg Debates 2026 website. The forums are being organized by a volunteer steering committee and are intended to provide a non-partisan opportunity for voters to hear from candidates.
The Debate Club at Trinity College School in Port Hope is also assisting organizers with procedures aimed at ensuring the debates are conducted fairly and on time.
The municipal election is Oct. 26, with online voting beginning Oct. 16.
