Alnwick/Haldimand Township says the Grafton arena is on track to reopen for the 2026-27 ice season following a $2.3-million renovation.
The project includes a new rink slab and refrigeration system, boards and glass, and a low-emissivity ceiling designed to improve energy efficiency. The players’ benches, penalty boxes and timekeeper’s area are also being reorganized.
The upgrades follow concerns about the arena’s future after leaks in the cooling system forced council to consider suspending ice operations two years ago. Temporary repairs and community fundraising helped keep the rink open for the 2024-25 season.
Mayor John Vogel says the improvements will make the arena safer, more accessible and more reliable while preserving its role as a community gathering place.
